Ledisi shows that we need some new categories. She's an incredible musician, pushing the genre boundaries. Kudos for the combo of R&B, Jazz, and Rap (the excellent Sa-Roc) on "Wake Up" - new, fresh - I want more! Love the jazz, and lyrics that get to the meat of it on "What Kinda Love Is That". I'm also crazy about bass, so I'm happy anytime bass is allowed to stand on it's own. I could go on.....

Real Rhythm with a Real Voice

I discovered this collection of songs as I was browsing through iTunes and I was pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful voice among the latest works released by so many. Ledisi sings soulfully, from the heart, and with a lot of passion. Her music drips with rhythm and I love the back-up singers (not sure if that's her voice too), but it's beautiful. So much new music that's being released (from what I consider "one-hit wonders" whose producers are digitizing the artist's voice and it just sounds awful. Not sure if this is the "trend" but if it is - I wish it was over. Whomever produced this album "The Wild Card" allowed Ledisi's pure, rich voice to come through loud and clear. It's a beautiful work of art.

At 62, never did I imagine that artists the likes of Ledisi would be ‘too good’ for heavy rotation on mainstream radio and essentially denied the audience and exposure they so richly deserve. It’s simply inexplicable.
